The SWAGTRON UrbanCruise is a 28 MPH Class 3 fat-tire e-bike that runs on a removable 48V 15.6Ah lithium battery, about 749 watt-hours, that is ANSI/CAN/UL/ULC 2271 compliant (battery). The bike is ANSI/CAN/UL 2849 compliant (electrical system). Those standards cover how the battery and electrical system are designed. Your daily habits cover the rest.

This guide covers the five habits that matter most:

  • How you charge
  • Where you store the battery
  • What temperatures you keep it in
  • How you move it
  • How you check it

It ends with a clear list of when to contact SWAGTRON support. Your UrbanCruise owner's manual is the final word for your bike. Where this guide quotes a number from an outside source, we name that source.

The UrbanCruise battery holds about 749 watt-hours (Wh). For reference, the table below shows the battery size that Aventon and Lectric list on their own product pages for two of their e-bikes, as checked on October 2, 2026.

E-bike Battery as listed by the maker Battery size
SWAGTRON UrbanCruise 48V 15.6Ah About 749 Wh
Aventon Aventure 3 36V 20Ah 733 Wh
Lectric XPeak 2.0 (standard battery) 48V 15Ah 720 Wh
Lectric XPeak 2.0 Long-Range 48V 20Ah 960 Wh

Makers update their specs from time to time, so check each product page for current figures.

How should I charge my UrbanCruise battery?

Charge the UrbanCruise battery with the charger that came with the bike, and stay nearby until it is done. A full charge takes 6–7 hours, so plan it for a time when you are home and awake.

  • Use the included charger. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) advises using only the charger provided with or recommended by the maker of your e-bike.
  • Look before you plug in. Check the battery and the charger cable for damage before every charge.
  • Be present. The CPSC advises always being present while a micromobility battery charges. Don't charge while you sleep or while you are out.
  • Unplug when it's done. The CPSC advises following the maker's charging instructions and unplugging when charging is complete.
  • Pick the right spot.
    • Indoors
    • Dry and well ventilated
    • Out of direct sun
    • On a hard, clear surface
  • Top up whenever you like. Lithium-ion cells can take a short charge at any charge level, according to Bosch eBike Systems, a major e-bike battery maker. You don't need to run the battery empty first.

What temperature is best for charging and storing an e-bike battery?

Bosch eBike Systems recommends charging a lithium e-bike battery between 32°F and 104°F (0°C to 40°C), ideally at room temperature, and storing it between 32°F and 68°F (0°C to 20°C) in a dry place.

  • In cold weather: keep the battery indoors. If it has been out in the cold, let it come up to room temperature before you charge it. Bosch's charging range starts at 32°F.
  • In summer: keep the battery out of direct sunlight, and don't leave it in a parked car for long periods.
  • In damp places: Bosch narrows its storage range to 50°F to 68°F (10°C to 20°C) where dew can form.

These figures are Bosch's guidance for lithium e-bike batteries. Follow your UrbanCruise owner's manual wherever it differs.

How do I store the UrbanCruise battery for winter or a long break?

For a long break, store the UrbanCruise battery off the bike, somewhere cool and dry, at 30% to 60% charge. That charge range comes from Bosch eBike Systems, which recommends it for storing lithium e-bike batteries.

  1. Remove the battery. The UrbanCruise battery is removable, so it can come inside even when the bike can't.
  2. Set the charge level. Use the LCD display to bring the battery to roughly half full, within the 30% to 60% range.
  3. Pick the spot.
    • A dry room
    • Between 32°F and 68°F
    • Out of direct sunlight
    • On a hard, clear surface
  4. Check in on it. Look at the charge level from time to time and top it back into the 30% to 60% range if it drifts low.
  5. Before the first ride back: inspect the battery and charger (see the checklist below), then give it a full charge while you are home.

How should I transport the UrbanCruise battery?

When the UrbanCruise rides on a car rack, take the battery off and carry it inside the car. Bosch eBike Systems gives the same advice for its own batteries. It keeps the battery out of the weather and lightens the load on the rack.

  • Air travel: the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) limits lithium-ion batteries in passenger bags to 100 watt-hours each, or up to 160 watt-hours with airline approval. At about 749 Wh, the UrbanCruise battery is well over that limit. It cannot go in your carry-on or checked bag. Plan ground transport instead.
  • Public transit: rules for bringing e-bikes and batteries on board vary by city and agency. Check your local transit agency's rules before you ride.
  • Avoid knocks: secure the battery so it can't slide or fall in transit. If it takes a hard drop, inspect it before the next charge.

How do I clean and inspect the UrbanCruise battery?

Inspect the UrbanCruise battery before every charge, and clean it without a hose or pressure washer. Bosch eBike Systems warns never to clean an e-bike battery with a direct water jet or a pressure washer, and never to submerge it in water.

What to look for:

  • Cracks or dents in the battery case
  • Swelling or bulging
  • Any leaking
  • Bent or loose contacts
  • Dirt on the contacts
  • A frayed charger cable or damaged plug

What never to do:

  • Never open or modify the battery pack. The CPSC warns against packs reworked by unqualified people or built from repurposed or used cells.
  • Never use a replacement battery that hasn't been approved for your bike. The CPSC advises using only replacement packs tested and approved to work with your device.
  • Never use a charger that didn't come with your UrbanCruise or isn't approved for it.

When should I contact SWAGTRON support about my battery?

Stop using the battery and contact SWAGTRON support if you notice any of the following:

  • Any damage from the inspection list above
  • A hard drop or a crash involving the battery
  • The battery has been submerged in water
  • The battery won't charge
  • The battery takes much longer than 6–7 hours to charge
  • Range falls sharply compared with what you normally get
  • The charger is damaged
  • The charger cable or plug is damaged
  • Something unusual appears on the LCD display
  • You need a replacement battery or charger

Reach the team through the SWAGTRON contact page. Have these ready to speed things up:

  • Your order number
  • The serial number from the battery or frame
  • A short description of what is happening
  • Photos or a short video of the issue

You can also report a product safety concern to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov.

How do I recycle an old e-bike battery?

Take an old lithium e-bike battery to a local battery recycler or a hazardous waste collection center, as the CPSC advises. Never put it in household trash or curbside recycling. The Battery Network (formerly Call2Recycle) runs a drop-off locator to find one near you.

Why the UL standards still matter

The SWAGTRON UrbanCruise is ANSI/CAN/UL 2849 compliant (electrical system) and ANSI/CAN/UL/ULC 2271 compliant (battery). These are not marketing badges. They are independent safety standards that matter. UL 2849 covers the complete e-bike electrical system, and UL 2271 covers the battery pack. Good charging and storage habits keep that design working the way it was built to. For a full explainer, read What UL 2849 Compliance Means for Your Next E-Bike Purchase.

The UrbanCruise battery care checklist
