Southern California isn’t exactly known for winter – or even seasons outside of summer. It’s been described wistfully as the land of endless summer. Sun, sand, and – this might be lesser known – one of the original skateboarding scenes in the 1960s and 70s. If surfers weren’t busy carving waves, they could be found pushing new limits riding skateboards along asphalt roads and sidewalks.

But California is more than just beaches – it’s also littered with amazing spots and choice hidden gems, and the stellar weather allows for constant outdoor activity and sun-soaking. And the best part about owning an electric rideable other than incorporating fun into your daily commute is, well, using it during your time off too! So it goes without saying that taking your e-ride on your next outing is a great way to infuse a rush into any grind.But maybe you just don’t quite know where to go?

Stops and Sights in Huntington Beach

  Ten miles of uninterrupted scenic beach beauty, this trail runs from Sunset Beach all the way down to Newport Beach. The route is entirely paved and well-known amongst cyclists, joggers, and skaters alike. This seemingly-endless stretch is perfect for popping in your headphones and taking your electric longboard out for a long, relaxing cruise.

  Okay so we aren’t talking about New York Central Park, but the Huntington Central Park is THE largest city-owned park in the Orange County area! With over 350 acres, enjoy a breezy ride on your e-scooter (the most ideal choice here) and take a break in the shade while enjoying all of the great amenities the park has to offer.

  With no website to speak of but not quite so hush-hush as to not have a Yelp or Facebook page, the Secret Spot is a relatively famous but well-kept local secret. It’s a conundrum, but definitely delicious. With a robust vegan and vegetarian menu, plus a full juice/smoothie bar, this bomb dot com spot is absolutely worth hitting up for a burrito – park your e-bike outside and stay for a bite!

Stops and Sights in Long Beach

• Shoreline Marina & Rainbow Harbor
  
  
  
  Located in Downtown Long Beach near the famous Aquarium of the Pacific, this long stretch of sidewalk is perfect for taking your electric bike or scooter on a spin – just be sure to share the space with pedestrians!

• Second Street in Belmont Shore
  
  
  
  Lined on either side with quaint sidewalk accessed cafes and unique boutiques, the main drag of long sidewalk is nestled snugly near Bayshore Beach. Anyone idly riding their electric skateboard can pick and choose their next lunch spot or cross over into picturesque Naples Island. You can also catch the occasional Sidewalk Chalk Festival for some local flavor.

  Between Junipero and Cherry Avenue, this curious 3-block collection of vintage shops prides itself on its “authentic roots” and its long maintained organic presence in Long Beach. Connected to a network of well-designed bike lanes winding throughout the city, Long beach is often praised as California’s most bike-friendly settings.

It’s totally worth grabbing your electric bike to take a tour of this retro treasure trove. Fun fact: it is low-key most famous for the Hollywood set designers and custom creators who leisurely peruse this community’s strange wares.

  A scenic (and long!) 22-mile paved bike path that hugs the LA coastlines form Will Rogers State Beach all the way up to Torrance County Beach. This means you’ll pass through Santa Monica, Venice, and Manhattan Beach – good thing you won’t have to pedal! Pack a lunch and make a beach picnic at your favorite spot.

• Palos Verdes Donut Loop (or “PV Donut Loop”)
  
  
  
  Brace yourselves… This 28-mile loop is not for the faint of heart…but with a little extra boost you get out of an electric motor with some watts to lend you some added help, well, you’ll be able to take in the natural beauty instead of sweating it. This trail begins in Redondo Beach and wraps parallel to the sparkling Pacific Ocean all the way back inward and up to Redondo again. Pro tip: a lot of Donut Loop veterans recommend taking this bad boy clockwise for easy navigating. And bring lots and lots of water – even if you are using an e-bike. (Trust us, 28 miles is a long time).

Whether you’ve been looking to get outside just a little bit more over the weekend or actually put your favorite electric bike or e-scooter through its paces, there are plenty of places for you to visit or find adventure.

Just make sure before any long haul that your rideable’s batteries are fully charged, and if you plan to take a break, maybe stop off at a cafe or restaurant and give your ride a quick charge, just in case.
