When you think of social media engagement, quality content and MLB, one team should come to mind — the Chicago Cubs. Community service. History. Comedy. There’s something for everyone on their YouTube page, from Kris Bryant’s “How to Tie a Tie” video to the Cubs’ “Bae vs Ballplayer” faux-gameshow video series. And few Cubbies take to the camera quite like second baseman and outfielder, Ian Happ.
AT HOME WITH HAPPER (AND SWAGTRON)
In this two-part video, we caught up with Happer at his Chicago digs, where he graciously showed off his prestigious art collection (no other art piece we’ve seen has quite the cachet as “Found Aluminum”), brewed up some artisanal pour-over coffee and took in the beautiful Chicago skyline.
In the second video, Happ rode around on his Swagcycle Pro electric bike before taking us up to the roof.
These two videos are a clear callback to the MTV show, MTV Cribs, which originally aired in 2000 and lasted for 19 seasons. While that show is no longer aired, we hope this isn’t the last video for the Cubs’ version!
Ian “Happer” Happ was one of the constants in the final games of the Cubs’ 2019 regular season. A second baseman and outfielder, he slashed .311/.348/.672 (1.021 OPS) and scored six home runs and 17 RBI in September alone. It was a burning-hot run that scored him a National League Player of the Week title for the final week of the season. It’s safe to say that Happer was quite literally “on fire” in these final weeks of play.
